The Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational, held at the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is one of my favorite automotive events and 2023 did not disappoint. Once again, the Ragtime Racers brought a collection of phenomenal early race cars including: 1911 Marmon Wasp replica, 1911 Lozier, 1919 Buick Racer Model H-45, 1913 Chalmers “36”, 1910 National “40” Racer, 1916 Hudson Super-Six Racer, 1911 & 1912 E-M-F Racers, 1912 Packard “30” Racer, 1913 Case 40, 1912 Packard, and a 1916 Sturtivant Romano Special. Each one of these cars is a unique and interesting race car.
At the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational you can wander around the track almost without limitation. Want to check out the garage area? No problem, go on in; try that during the Indianapolis 500! Owners or mechanics can be found working on various cars throughout the day and you’re free to get “up close and personal” with the cars as well as the owners/drivers/mechanics. Again, this is an opportunity that you don’t get at most racing venues. For reasons I’m not able to fathom, there are virtually no crowds at the event either.
