My daughter Becky just played in the LPGA Qualifier Tournament at Otter Creek Golf Course. She has played Otter Creek quite a few times recently, so is pretty familiar with the course. After 4 holes, she was -1 with a birdie on the 1st hole and 3 pars. Then disaster struck; she somehow got debris in her eye on the fairway of the 4th hole and wasn’t able to get it out. She continued playing, but her eye kept bothering her even after several attempts to flush out whatever was in there. Finally, on the 10th hole she had to withdraw.
This was a bittersweet tournament, as the top two finishers go on to play in the LPGA Epson Tour (the “development” level of the LPGA). The two winners shot -1 and +1. At the 2025 NCAC Conference Finals, also held at Otter Creek this past May, Becky shot rounds of 72-72-75. So she was quite capable of being up with the leaders at this event.
