This is now the 9th year for the Marty Brown Memorial Invitational rifle match and its fundraising for ovarian cancer. To date, over $87,500 has been raised for Ovar’coming Together in Indiana and Ovarian Cancer Connection in Ohio. Over the last couple of years, Revere’s Riders has provided pre-paid gas cards on behalf of Ovar’coming Together and Ovarian Cancer Connection to area hospitals to distribute to those undergoing ovarian cancer treatment as a way to offset some of the patient’s expenses.
Frank Melloni won this year’s event with another perfect 40-17V which is also the new best score for any winner in event history.
The targets shot at the match are referred to as a “D” or “Dog” target and are shaped like the below:
Impacts anywhere on the black portion of the target count as a “hit”. Impacts in the “V” inner circle are counted for tie-breaking purposes. Any impact that breaks a scoring ring counts. Thus, a “40-17V” for a 40-round course of fire like we use implies all 40 rounds impacted the black portion of the target and 17 of those impacts were inside the V-ring. The black portion of the “D” target is about 26″ wide by 19″ tall with the “V” ring being 6″ in diameter.
